Hendrina Power Station is situated in Mpumalanga, 40 kilometres south of Middleburg, and was designed by ESKOM (Electricity Supply Commission). At the time of its construction, it served as the largest station in South Africa with an ultimate generating capacity of 20000 MW and ten 200 MW machines. Kendal Power station is in Mpumalanga, approximately 40 kilometres southwest of Witbank. The station has an installed capacity of 4116 MW comprising of six 686 MW units. Kendal uses an indirect dry-cooling system, resulting in the use of less water during the cooling process as compared to the traditional wet-cooled power plants. The cooling towers at the station are the world’s largest of their kind, with a height and base diameter of 165m.
Majuba Powerstation is in Mpumalanga, situated between Volksrust and Amersfoort. The coal-fired power plant has been operated by Eskom since April 1996 when the first unit was connected to the grid. Majuba has three dry-cooled units of 665 MW and three wet-cooled units of 716 MW, all generating a total installed capacity of 4110 MW. Lesedi has had a healthy ongoing subcontracting agreement with the station since 2021.
